There were many choices for a vineyard in British Columbia when Andy was looking for his vineyard. The Cowichan Valley offered the best selection of available land with the correct, aspect, heat units and soil type for a cool climate vineyard. In particular it seemed the best suited for the Pinot family, which Andy was very interested in growing. In 2001 the Cowichan Valley had a fledgling wine industry with several wineries already producing world class wines; land prices were reasonable and a 50 acre parcel became available on the south slope of Mt Prevost. This was acquired in the spring of 2001. Vineyard development then continued until 2006. The vineyard consists of 10 acres of Pinot Noir, with 4 clones, 114, 115, 667 and 777 planted on 3 separate elevations, 8 acres of Pinot Gris, an acre each of Merlot and Gewurztraminer, 5 acres of Marechal Foche and 4 acres of early ripening Cabernet crosses.
The vineyard will be in full production by the summer of 2010 when we will be producing 90 to 100 tons of grapes annually.
